Principal's Welcome
Principal’s Message
It is an absolute honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Vivian Banks Charter School—a school deeply rooted in history, tradition, and community. Located on the sacred lands of the Pala Indian Reservation, Vivian Banks has proudly served generations of Native American and Hispanic students since opening its doors as a charter school in 1996. Before that, the school site functioned as a Catholic school, making it a place of learning for local families for decades.
Named in honor of Vivian Banks, a respected Cupeño educator, community leader, and longtime trustee, our school stands as a living legacy of her commitment to Native youth and cultural preservation. I am incredibly proud to carry forward her vision by leading a school that not only prioritizes academic excellence but also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of our students.
As we look to the future, I am filled with excitement about the opportunities ahead. We are committed to fostering a nurturing, inclusive environment where students thrive, families feel connected, and the community is actively involved in shaping our school’s success.
It is truly a joy to be part of this special place. I look forward to working with all of you to ensure this year is one of purpose, pride, and progress for every student at Vivian Banks.
With gratitude,
Tina Calabrese
